The Buzz About Bees
These busy bees might be small, but they are fierce, and they play a vital role in our world. From pollinating flowers to producing honey, they are true superheroes of nature! At Wyld Cards, we love celebrating bees with their own funky bee greeting card design, perfect for every occasion. But how much do you really know about these amazing insects? Let’s plunge straight into some fun and random facts about bees that will make you appreciate them even more!
Busy as a Bee: now that’s what I call good work ethic
Bees are incredibly hardworking; one bee is known to visit around 100 flowers in just one foraging trip! In their life span of only a few weeks, a worker bee can produce about 1/12th of a teaspoon of honey. That does not seem much, but when thousands of bees work together, they can produce pounds of honey for the hive.
At Wyld Cards, we think that same hard work deserves to be celebrated! Whether it’s a thank you card, or a congratulations, our bee-themed design is perfect for showing appreciation with a little buzz of fun.
Let’s get this party started: they dance to communicate!
Did you know that bees perform a little wiggle dance to share information? When a bee is foraging and they find a good source of nectar or pollen, it returns to the hive and does a little dance! This funky dance tells the other bees the distance and direction of the flowers. Such fun!
Same, same but different: there are over 20,000 species of Bees
Did you know bees come in all shapes and sizes! Whilst the most famous bee is the honeybee, there are over 20,000 species of bees around the world, these include bumblebees, carpenter bees, and sweat bees. Some bees are solitary bees (bless them!), while others, like honeybees, live in colonies. And guess what? Not all bees make honey. Only a small percentage of bee species produce that golden goodness. The diversity of bees is as vibrant as the designs at Wyld Cards!
Fun fact: Bees can recognize human faces – WHAT!
Bees are so smart! smarter than we give them credit for. Research has shown that bees can recognize human faces! They do this using a process called – configural processing, like how humans recognize faces. So, the next time you see a bee, don’t be surprised if it seems to recognize you! That’s another reason why bees are one of our favourite creatures, they’re as friendly as they are funky!
Bees are best mates with famous people don’t you know!
Have you seen or heard of the most recent bee movie – The Beekeeper starring Jason Statham, the bees take centre stage in this action-packed movie. Statham plays a former beekeeper turned vigilante, drawing attention to the importance of bees and their role in nature, while delivering the high-octane action he’s known for. Check it out if you haven’t already!
Off-screen, many famous people share a passion for beekeeping now. Just to name a few celebrities like Morgan Freeman, Scarlett Johansson, and David Beckham who have taken up beekeeping as a hobby, not only for its calming effects but also to help protect these vital pollinators. They are of a few famous people now highlighting the growing movement to preserve bee populations and maintain ecological balance.
