Alpacas: (not Llamas, but close!)
As you can tell by now at Wyld Cards we love funky animals, and our alpaca greeting card are on the top of our list! These cute, friendly creatures are more than just a passing trend. Whether it’s their adorable faces, their lush fleece, or their quirky personalities, alpacas have captured the hearts of us all around the world. Let’s dive straight into what makes these quirky animals so lovable.
I’m famous don’t you know!
Alpacas have made brief appearances in movies, confusing audiences all over the world as to whether they saw a Llama or an Alpaca. While alpacas aren’t exactly Hollywood stars, yet! A few movies have contributed to their popularity, even if they did get confused!
Only joking Tina is a Llama not an Alpaca! People often get this character confused and love to tell everyone how they named their adorable Alpaca Tina from the movie Napoleon Dynamite! Such fun.
2. Paddington 2 (2017)
Alpacas make a brief appearance in the background of a zoo scene in Paddington 2. These cameos showcase their growing popularity as cute and quirky animals.
3. Dr Dolittle (1998)
The original story featured a wide variety of animals; however, modern versions often include alpacas or llamas for comedic effect. There’s an alpaca in the 2020 Robert Downey Jr. version, Dolittle, where the animal briefly appears among a medley of talking creatures. So cute!
So, Alpacas won’t be getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of fame anytime soon, however, never say never!
Social and silly
Alpacas are not solitary animals, they are super social, and they love the company of their herd and can even form bonds with other animals like sheep, goats, and sometimes even humans! Alpacas are so cute and quirky, and they communicate through soft humming sounds, and if they feel threatened or annoyed (which doesn’t happen often), they might give a little spit, not their most glamorous trait, but it’s all part of their quirky charm. They also have a lovely playful side to them and are known to run and jump around when they’re feeling frisky.
Not Llamas (but close!)
A common misconception is that alpacas are llamas and vice versa, but they’re quite different. While they both belong to the camelid (camel fam!) family, alpacas are smaller and softer than their larger llama cousins. Llamas are mainly used as pack animals, whereas alpacas are raised for their wool. So, if you’ve ever wondered whether an alpaca could carry your camping gear up a mountain, you’re probably thinking of a llama!
Can you tell the difference?
